if your policy doesnt cover maternity then yes you need maternity insurance. regular insurance wont cover and maternity costs.
if you are pregnant but dont have maternity coverage through aetna already, they wont give it to you now that you know you are pregnant.
I have Aetna (and used it all through my pregnancy) but have never heard of maternity insurance…your prenatal care is all covered under your regular insurance. If you have an HMO, the only difference is that you will have to get your primary doctor to confirm the pregnancy and then refer you to an OB. Everything else stays the same. The only other thing is when you go on maternity leave at the end of your pregnancy. In that case, it will likely be a different company handling that. My short term disability was with Unum. You’ll need to work with your HR department in getting these benefits.
It would, but the way all insurance companies do their maternity insurance requires that you take the maternity rider before you become pregnant. Some won’t even allow you to get insurance at all while pregnant or for 6 months thereafter. You should most likely not make any change to your insurance right now, if you lose coverage you possibly cannot get coverage elsewhere at all for up to 15 months. There is a such thing as supplemental maternity insurance that you can obtain after you become pregnant, but I would check at my local health department first to see what savings they could offer before I checked into supplemental maternity.
