		<description>Through FMLA, a new mother can take up to 12 weeks maternity leave unpaid. But as far as I know, most state/government workers (teachers, policewomen, etc.) get close to 6 weeks paid maternity leave. If a teacher decides to take off 5 months (1 month more than FMLA) then the school does not have to hire the teacher back. You may have your months wrong or I may. But even with that, a teacher is still responsible for lesson plans and other necessary school dutiesfor the time she will be out.</description>
