How soon did you start wearing maternity clothes?
I am almost 15 weeks and my pre-pregnancy clothes do not fit at all. I was wearing them up until last week with the button and zipper open and a belly band but theya re just too uncomfortable. Now, my belly is not poking out but it is much bigger than before. Rather than having 3 or 4 different stages of clothes, I just want to start wearing maternity clothes. They are comfortable and it makes sense to me. I am proud to show off my belly.
A woman at my job came up and asked me today how far along I am so I told her 15 weeks. She looked at me like I was an idiot and asked why I was wearing maternity clothes already cause my belly is barely poking out. I told her it was more comfortable. She laughed and said "But you are barely pregnant". I snapped back that she "Barely had any class" and just walked away.
When did you start wearing maternity clothes and do you think I am strange for starting at 15 weeks if my belly is growing and my old clothes aren't fitting?
I could care less about her opinion but it really annoyed me. (Imagine that - a pregnant woman annoyed!)
I am 28 weeks pregnant with #3 and I was in maternity clothes at 8 weeks! Everyone was like why are you wearing them you are going to hate them by the end of your pregnancy. I could not wear my normal clothes and I thought it was dumb to go out and buy bigger clothes and them by maternity clothes later on. So I just started wearing them.
Bottom line — If you are more comfortable in them, then wear them!
well, i know you’re probably all hormonal and what not… but that was a pretty nasty thing to say to your coworker.
I didnt start wearing maternity till i was about 6 months… I was in highschool and I wore comphy stretch pants and t shirts for the first 5 months. I didnt have a belly till 5 1/2 or 6 months along. I mean. there was always SOME belly.. just not belly enough to be showing off yet.
you do what you wanna do- who cares what other think.
I started wearing maternity clothes around 12 to 15 weeks with all 3 of my children like you said they are just more comfortable. Enjoy your self, feel good, and look nice, that is all that matters. Good luck with everything I hope all goes well for you, easy pregnancy and easy birth!
I am wearing maternity shirts and jeans, I can still fit into most of my dress pants and I am just 14 weeks. All last week I wore maternity jeans! Wow, are they comfortable!! I’ve actually lost weight since becoming pregnant, but my belly has moved to the front!
I was told that the shorter your torso, the sooner your baby belly will poke out. I am short and mine started bulging last week!
I think my answer to your rude co-worker would have been "I’m just over 1/3 through!" I had a co-worker tell me that showing at 13 weeks was too early…imagine this…it was a man who’s never had kids and claims he and his wife won’t have them…huh??? Wonder what he knows about pregnancy!
I did make a comment that once I start wearing maternity clothes, because of their comfort, I may never stop!!
Good luck to you and just be happy!!!
Most of the girls I work with start wearing maternity clothes at 3 months(12 weeks) especially if it is their first.I think it should be personal preference as soon as your clothes get tight. That woman was rude!
I got a couple pairs of slacks from Old Navy. They are "real waist" and fit below your belly. They still look and fit more like real clothes but have elastic adjustments in the waist. Those worked really well for me when nothing else would fit and I wasn’t showing that much. I think I started wearing those when I was only about 10 wks, lol!
Doesn’t matter what other people say/think. Just get yourself something that you feel comfortable wearing. I’ve found that it’s really important to me that I don’t feel "frumpy". I’m happier if I still feel kinda stylish. Go with what makes you feel good about yourself!
I don’t think you are odd. I literally just bought 4 maternity tops last night and I am 20 weeks. I can still wear my pants and have the bella band. I don’t think many people who don’t know me know I am pregnant but I think they probably think I have a beer belly! I am in that in between stage. I actually am surprised, this is my first, but I thought I would be in maternity clothes a couple weeks ago and haven’t needed them. I have read that women begin showing at 16 weeks and on but everybody is different and I think you should wear them when they are more comfortable. If your pre-pregnancy clothes don’t fit they don’t fit. That woman would have pissed me off also.
Hi there fellow pregnant fairy… I am 7 months pregnant and slightly uncomfortable.
Well, I still do not wear maternity clothes… I have bought bigger tops and when I cannot wear them buttoned anymore I will go for open tops with something underneath. But in your case wear maternity clothes by all means. Nobody understands that the size of the belly does not matter but how comfortable you are, is of great importance to you. If something is just slightly snugg, it is very irritating cause your belly is sensitive. And there is nothing wrong with wearing the maternity tops – then you dont have to buy later on. AND OF COURSE YOU ARE PROUD TO SHOW OFF YOUR BELLY… all pregnanty woman feel like that… I know I am extremely proud. So, tell that woman to mind her own business… and if she does not have anything positive to say that she should not say anything at all.
Good luck on your pregnancy – enjoy every moment!!!
haha yeah nothing strange about that a pregnant women getting annoyed, and if your growing out of all your clothes and you feel more comfortable in maternity clothes then go for it.
I didn’t start wearing them until about 26 27 weeks with my first but i’m pretty sure i’ll have to start wearing them earlier this time I’m also 15 weeks along.
your theroy is good thinking why spend heaps of money on clothes that are a few sizes bigger than what you normally buy to just grow out of them in a few short weeks anyway. least with the materinty clothes you will have them until baby is born.
This is my first and I think I started wearing them around the same time as you but I am still debating wether or not I will ever go back. I am not over weight by any means but these things are so comfortable. I love not having to zip and button pants anymore! I could friggin sleep in these things.
With my first, I started to get a bit of a tummy aroung 13-15 weeks. I had some bigger clothes in my closet already, so I just wore those until I absolutely *had* to go buy maternity clothes (around 24 weeks)
I’m now 9 wks with my 2nd pregnancy…and I’m already too big for my regular pants/jeans! I have to wear my bigger clothes already. At this rate, I’ll be in maternity clothes by 13-15 weeks too, lol.
I also wore my hubby’s clothes for a while, lol.
Wear what’s comfy…who cares what anyone else thinks?
I started at 8 months because I only gained 16 pounds and found that buying things that stretched were cheaper yet still comfortable and I could continue to wear them after I had the baby and began loosing the weight. Wearing matermity tops that have built in bras and are high cut and hang free are the best because you can continue to wear them for a long time afterwards and they won’t look like maternity tops.
I started wearing maternity jeans on the weekend at 8wks, pants at 12wks and shirts at 14wks. I still have two pair of regular pants that are comfortable with the belly band at 15wks but that’s it. It’s all about comfort for me too. The only other choice I have is to buy bigger clothes that I only need bigger around the belly, my butt is still the same size. My regular shirts have started getting snug and rolling up over my belly, I think it’s better to just give it up and wear the shirts that were made for our kind of belly. It will all fit well soon enough.
i didnt start wearing maternity clothes till i was about 20 weeks, its ok to wear them at 15 weeks, if your clothes dont fit then hey go for it, whats the sense on buying new pants to try to fit in them when your going to need maternity clothes anyways. plus not only that some start to show sooner then others, so it doesnt matter how far along you are at all. good luck hun
I started wearing them late with my first pregnancy, but with this pregnancy I started wearing them just about the time you did. As soon as I felt uncomfortable in my normal clothes I started wearing maternity pants and shirts or just bought bigger shirts. It is not safe to wear your clothes to tight, so dont worry about what other people think or say!! You do what you want! If you are comfortable the baby will also be comfortable!!!
I do not think your strange for wanting to wear maternity clothes!
I am pregnant with #3 and started wearing maternity clothes at 8 weeks! I couldn’t button my pants anymore, but I got away with most of my pre-pregnancy shirts. Now i’m wearing all maternity clothes.
It’s all about comfort! Good luck to you!
Wow, I’m shocked to hear that a woman said that to you..does she have children?Even though your belly isn’t poking out, your waist and hips change during pregnancy.Things feel snug and it gets very umcomfortable to wear a lot of pre pregnancy clothing.
Myself, I started out buying just plus size tops because becoming pregnant made me even more top heavy(FF)than I already was.Somewhere in between my 3rd and 4th month I bought some maternity tank tops, some really cute polo tees from motherhood maternity(I have one on right now),and a pair of khaki capris.I didn’t really get much use out of the kahki capris because I lost 20 lbs since buying them(being pregnant can really make u eat healthier)and they seriously made my butt look droopy. So now I experiment with plus sizes and stick with cute maternity tees. But now that I’m in my seventh month..I’m sure maternity jean shopping won’t be to far off for me.WEar what you want to wear….wear what makes YOU feel comfortable.Noone has to wear your clothes but you and that goes for pre pregnancy clothes as well!
my mom wanted me to wear maternity clothe when i foundo out i was pregnant. She said its fine & its just another way to show off ur pregnany, even if its not noticeable yet. I always feel bloated! so maternity clothe make me feel so much more comfortable
Dont bother about what other says. You should be comfortable in whatever you wear. I started wearing around 24th week. But I was not at all showing till that time….
